  THE LAS LAJAS SANCTUARY- COLOMBIA THE LAS LAJAS SANCTUARY- COLOMBIA (FRONT VIEW) INTRODUCTION/ HISTORY:               The Las Lajas Sanctuary is basically a church built in 1905 and was then re-built in 1949 due to damaged sides. The history is based on a story or a myth of 1754, when two women (a mother along with her deaf-mute daughter) while crossing the narrow area came across the intense storm. The daughter who was deaf pointed some lightning point to her mother and both when reached a cave they saw the image of Virgin Mary (The mother of Hazrat Eesa/Jesus) on the walls of that cave. The image/picture of the great Virgin Mary is still visible inside the cave several feet inside. So this site is considered to be a holy site and a lot of pilgrims visit this place.The present style of the church is Gothic and it took almost 33 years to complete the structure.
